Here is a bathroom we recently built in a master suite addition in central Austin. The curbless shower allows for easy wheelchair access and ADA compliant shower handles provide easy manipulation of the shower controls.
Handicap accessible homes are hard to come by these days, and most people wouldn’t think that a room built for a wheelchair could be so appealing and versatile- even to those without mobility restrictions. The owners of this home are empty-nesters who plan on retiring here, so this was an option that didn’t present any obstacles for them. The body sprays (as seen on the left of the 1st picture) also make this shower a custom experience.
Check out a few other curbless showers I found below.
This curbless shower is set next to a recessed tub from Wright Works in Indianapolis. Pretty neat- but I’m not sure you can fit a wheelchair in the glass enclosure.
This ADA accessible bathroom is from the Carlyle Suites Hotel in Washington, DC. See more here.
One of our favorites from Material Girl– the large curb-less, frameless shower is covered in Bianco Carrara marble slabs with a nice, large bench to relax.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on curbless showers. Do you have any other ideas for an accessible bathroom?
